"He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says..."
God bless you.
Could you live all your life with someone you love if all of their heart and mind and emotions were entrusted and devoted to the relationship, with God's blessing, but you would never make love?
Not that you could never - but you would never. Would you choose that kind of life? Would knowing their heart's truest expressions and having their devotion suffice, with only simple hugs and kisses forming the boundaries of physical intimacy between you?
Basically, what I've described is pure friendship. Men and women can have it with each other just as powerfully as men do with their male buddies and women do with their female pals. Do you believe that?
In marriage, God created and blessed lovemaking, absolutely. In the marital relationship it is necessary for procreation; it also facilitates emotional intimacy, no doubt about it. However, sexual relations are not the end-all and the be-all of a God-defined marriage. Love and sex are not synonymous terms by any means.
First and foremost, love is a heart thing; a deeper issue than anything achieved or experienced by the flesh - ever. The physical tangibly exhibits the oneness of heart (and true being) God desires to exist in relationship with Him and between husband and wife. Even God-defined relationship between friends begins at the heart and thrives only when unconditional love is allowed to consume the mindsets and belief systems of both parties.
If you could only have one or the other in marriage, which one would you choose? Unconditional love and devotion from your spouse, or sex as the centerpiece? Interesting question and one I pray will leave you thinking and asking questions of your own regarding where your marriage is - with God as well as your spouse - for knowing the answer and your reasons for it is critically important.
It's true that God offers the best of both worlds to round out marriage in Him but, I assure you, what's going on in His heart toward us is eternally what matters most.
When we are joined to God, we are "one spirit with Him", scripture says. God makes love to us via His heart, and it's heart encounters with Him that indelibly change and transform us into the image of His Son. If I had to choose... I'd go for the heart.
